2016 BVL FALL BALL INFO:

Registration will open at www.boulderlacrosse.org on August 1st.

Boulder Valley Lacrosse runs our annual Fall Ball program on Sundays in September and October. BVL Fall Ball provides opportunities for beginning, intermediate and advanced boys players to continue their skill development under the direction of experienced BVL coaches.  We strongly recommend participation in Fall Ball for all players interested in playing for BVL during our primary spring season.

We will again provide 2 options for BVL Fall Ball: our traditional ”Sunday Skills" program at a Boulder location, and our "CYLA Fall League" option which includes home and away games organized by the CYLA (Colorado Youth Lacrosse Association).

Please read on for details about each option.

"SUNDAY SKILLS"  FALL BALL:

  • Our traditional Fall Ball program

  • Recommended for all beginning or inexperienced players.  Experienced players also welcome to participate and will be grouped appropriately.   Certain red-division teams will participate in the Sunday Skills program instead of the CYLA Fall League this year.

  • All 6 Sunday sessions will be held at the same location—no travel.

  • Location for U7 through U13: East Boulder Community Park (EBCP) turf & grass fields, 5660 Sioux Drive, Boulder.

  • Location for U15 (Sunday Skills and OBrien Select team):  Manhattan turf field, 290 Manhattan Drive, Boulder.

  • Sessions will run September 11, 18, 25, and October 2, 9, 16.  In the event of weather cancellation, makeup date will be October 23

  • Ages U7-U8-U9-U10 will play 12-145pm at EBCP .

  • Ages U11-U12-U13 will play 2-4pm at EBCP.

  • U15 Select (OBrien) and U13 Select (Sankey) will play 12-2pm at Manhattan turf.

  • U15 Sunday Skills will play 2-4pm at Manhattan turf.

  • Sessions will consist of high-tempo drills designed to teach the fundamental skills and team concepts of lacrosse, including passing, catching, scooping, and shooting.  Most sessions will conclude with intra-squad scrimmages or small-sided game situations.

  • Players will be grouped by age & experience level

  • Coaches will include current BVL coaches and CU Lacrosse players

  • Cost $165 plus any required US Lacrosse membership ($25)

  • Players are not required to purchase BVL game jersey or shorts.  Players new to BVL will receive a Boulder Lacrosse practice pinnie.

CYLA FALL LEAGUE:

  • An expansion of our traditional Fall Ball program featuring games against our CYLA opponents

  • Recommended for experienced players seeking more game action

  • 7 Sunday sessions, including 2 practices, at least 2 home games at EBRC and up to 3 away games.  There will be no weather makeup dates.   Some (not all)  BVL travel teams may have additional weeknight practices, dependent upon field availability and coach preference.

  • Home games will be held at local fields including Casey MS or Manhattan MS in Boulder or Dawson School in Lafayette.

  • Sessions will run August 28; September 11, 18, 25; and October 2, 9, and 16.

  • Schedule:

    • Sunday August 28: 2 hour team practice at EBRC or Dawson, times TBD (between 800am and 600pm).  Practice times released by August 22.

    • Sunday September 4: No session due to Labor Day weekend

    • Sunday September 11: 2 hour team practice at EBRC or Dawson, times TBD (between 800am and 600pm)

    • Sunday October 16:  CYLA Festival Doubleheader, home or away TBD

  • Cost $195 plus any required US Lacrosse membership ($25)

  • Players assigned to a Fall team must have a BVL game uniform or will be required to purchase a jersey for an additional cost of $40.  Game shorts are optional (cost $35).

When a parent registers for BVL Fall Ball, you will be asked to indicate a preference for the "Sunday Skills” or "CYLA Fall League” program this fall.  We strongly recommend that beginning players join the Sunday Skills program this fall to prepare for spring league play with us in 2017.

Experienced players (at least one season of competitive lacrosse) may choose either option, depending upon whether parents are willing to drive to away games at locations including Broomfield, Fort Collins, Loveland, and Colorado Springs.

We will assign only players who have indicated interest in the Fall League program to Fall League teams this fall.   We will not assign any player who has indicated preference for the Sunday Skills program to a Fall League team.

Our ability to field Fall League teams is entirely dependent upon the number of coaches interested in this option—  if we are not able to assign a player to a Fall League team, he will be assigned to participate in the Sunday Skills program (and we will refund the cost difference of $30 back to you).  Assignment to a Fall League team is not guaranteed and will depend entirely upon the number of coaches willing to participate in the Fall League program.

ALL BVL FALL BALL PLAYERS:

  • Must have full equipment (boys lacrosse stick, helmet, shoulder & elbow pads, gloves, cup and mouthguard).  We may have very limited quantities of loaner equipment available.

  • Must have US LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP (annual cost $25).  This is a requirement of our insurance provider and may be obtained during the course of online registration. Please email   if you have any difficulties with the US Lacrosse membership process- this will not prevent your son from playing with us this fall.

  • May have any level of experience:  beginning, intermediate or advanced.  We welcome all boys lacrosse players.

  • Will be grouped on the basis of age & experience. In some cases, parents have requested that new and inexperienced players be grouped with friends who have significant playing experience.  We greatly prefer to group beginning and less experienced players separately from intermediate and advanced players.  This approach leads to more rapid skill development and significantly less frustration on the part of newer players who are just beginning to learn the sport.  It will provide them with a stronger athletic foundation in the long run.  Once beginning players have mastered the fundamental skills of lacrosse, good athletes should be able to "catch up" with more experienced players.

  • Are strongly encouraged to play with a properly strung lacrosse stick.  This makes a huge difference in a player's ability to learn how to throw and catch properly.  While you don't need to invest in the most expensive equipment available to see results, we encourage parents not to skimp on this essential piece of gear.  We do not recommend that you purchase used lacrosse sticks for this reason.

  • Are encouraged to visit our great sponsor DICK’S SPORTING GOODS to try out lacrosse gear.  Parents can click on the Dick’s Sporting Goods banner on our website to download great coupons for savings on lacrosse purchases.

PROSPECTIVE COACHES:  Boulder Valley Lacrosse is always seeking to add new coaches to our program.  Lacrosse experience is NOT required, but a positive and healthy attitude about youth sports is mandatory.

If you have the ability to engage kids in an energetic and enthusiastic manner, we would love to have you coach with us and will train you in our preseason coaching clinic on Sunday August 21. We require all coaches to pass a NCSI background check and agree to our BVL Coaches’ Pledge of Responsibility.
